ITT Technical Institute Hosts E-Waste Collection Day on May 9

MAUMEE, Ohio (May 8, 2015) - The ITT Technical Institute in Maumee will host a community-wide Collection Day for electronic waste on Saturday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the ITT Tech parking lot, 1656 Henthorne Drive in Maumee, close to the intersection of Holland-Sylvania Road and Airport Highway.

Presented by AIM ECycling, the public is invited to drop off any old electronic devices, such as computers, printers, monitors, cables, speakers, keyboards, computer mice, cameras, radios, telephones, electronic games, VCRs, DVD players, and typewriters. Televisions will not be accepted at this event.

"For three years we have proudly joined with AIM to host a community e-waste recycling event," said Jim Unger, director at the ITT Technical Institute in Maumee. Last year, more than five tons of old electronics was collected in less than four hours at a collection day hosted by ITT Tech.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, more than 3.4 million tons of electronic waste was disposed in 2012, but only 29% was recycled with the rest going to landfills and incinerators. Most electronic devices contain both valuable materials and toxic chemicals, all of which can be recovered during the recycling process.
