ITT Joining Statewide HopeLine Drive for Domestic Violence Survivors

Carmel, Ind. (May 7, 2015) - ITT Technical Institute is a community partner in a month-long HopeLine from Verizon drive from May 7 to June 7 to collect no-longer-used cell phones to support the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Verizon, IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today announced the HopeLine drive to raise critical funds and awareness for domestic violence prevention. The unprecedented drive allows racing fans, for the first time, to bring their no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories to donation sites setup across Indiana including at every major racing event at the Speedway this May.

"ITT Technical Institute is pleased to be part of this effort and are asking students and employees in Central Indiana to donate during the month-long drive," said Nicole Elam, vice president of government relations and external affairs of ITT Educational Services, Inc. ITT Tech will be placing HopeLine collection bins at multiple campuses and locations, including at the company headquarters in Carmel.

This collection supports survivors who are transitioning from dangerous situations by funding the Emergency Housing and Transportation Survivor Fund with an immediate $50,000 grant from Verizon, increasing the fund by nearly 15 times its average annual income since 2005.

"With this grant, many more survivors will be able to receive transportation to a shelter and alternative housing when shelters are overcrowded," said Lauren Love-Wright, region president for Verizon in Indiana. "HopeLine relies on its community partners to also collect phones that are no longer in use so cash grants like these can continue to be provided to those most in need. That means Hoosiers can make a difference."

Through HopeLine, the public can help prevent domestic violence by donating no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories in any condition from any carrier. Wireless phones given to HopeLine are refurbished and sold for reuse, generating proceeds for the program. Refurbished phones, complete with 3,000 minutes of wireless service and text-messaging service, are provided to local domestic violence agencies or local government and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients.
